The Kingdom of Norway, is a constitutional monarchy located in Northern Europe, the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula.
Norway - a peaceful country. As Norway has only approximately 4 million inhabitants Norway is considered a quiet, peaceful & safe country. The largest city in Norway- the Norwegian capital Oslo- has 500 000 inhabitants. Norway was ranked highest of all countries in human development from 2001 to 2006, and came second in 2007. It also rated the most peaceful country in the world in a 2007 survey by Global Peace Index.

Norway climate. Due to the Gulf Stream ocean current Norway experiences warmer temperatures than expected at such northern latitudes, especially along the coast, with summer temperatures of around 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, and winter temperatures mostly above zero degree Celsius (+32º F). Even the Arctic city of Tromso does not have very cold winters, with a mean temperature in January of -3 degrees Celsius. The Norwegian Fjords

The Sognefjord consists of the main fjord - Norway's longest and deepest fjord - and several branches, such as the Aurlandsfjord, the Naeroyfjord (on the World Heritage list), the Fjaerlandsfjord & the Lusterfjord. The famous Flam Railway takes you down to the Aurlandsfjord & the village of Flam from the Myrdal mountain station through the spectacular Flam valley. The Flam Railway is a side line of the main Bergen train line between Oslo and Bergen.
View pictures of the Sognefjord & the Flam Railway
The Hardangerfjord - the "blue" fjord - is located south east of Bergen, easily accessible from Bergen by car. The Hardangerfjord is surrounded by mountains, the majestic Folgefonna glacier & idyllic fruit growing villages. The early spring Hardangerfjord fruit blossom is unforgettable!
The Geirangerfjord - a World Heritage site - carves its way from the coast & the Alesund coastal town to the fjord village of Geiranger, with spectacular waterfalls & tiny mountain farms clinging to the mountain sides. The famous "Golden Route" mountain road with the breathtaking Trollstigen hairpin road offers marvelous views of the Geirangerfjord
The Nordfjord is located between the Geirangerfjord and the Sognefjord. The drive along the shore of the Nordfjord is unforgettable, while the Utvik mountain road offers stunning views of the fjord below. From the fjord village of Olden the beautiful Briksdal valley carves its way towards the famous Briksdal glacier & the Briksdal lake.

Northern Lights - Aurora Borealis:

The Northern Lights - nature's own light show - are solar winds that meet the atmosphere in a zone around the magnetic North Pole, forming arches, waves and curls of light moving across the sky, with sudden rays of light shooting down from space.
The Northern Lights are visible between November and March when the sky is clear, depending on the Northern Lights activity.

The best place to see the Northern Lights is in the Northern parts of Norway, and the area around the Arctic city of Tromso offers a maximum of Northern Lights activity. Read more about the Northern Lights

The Midnight Sun in Norway

is a phenomenon occurring in latitudes north to the Arctic Circle and south and nearby to the north of the Antarctic Circle where the sun remains visible at the local midnight. Given fair weather, the sun is visible for a continuous 24 hours. The number of days per year with potential midnight sun increases the further north of the Arctic Circle or south of the Antarctic Circle one goes.
The Arctic Circle in North Norway is located close to the Arctic town of Bodo and south of the Lofoten Islands.
South of the Arctic Circle in Norway the nights are bright ("white") as well during spring/early summer due to the altitude, although the sun is not visible all night.
