ATV/Quad Russian border safari – Hurtigruten land excursion
This is an optional land excursion which you can add to your Hurtigruten cruise booked through Fjord Travel Norway. The land excursion will appear during the cruise booking process, with prices and details.
Your guide will meet you at the quay and take you through today’s programme. Then you start with a test drive in a low traffic area, before driving in pairs up to the Kjerringstupet viewpoint, overlooking Kirkenes. The story of Kjerringstupet is presented, and you’ll also look at settlements located here more than 10 000 years ago. You then drive along the road through the town centre and stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Sydvaranger mines, where a short history is presented.
From here you continue to the old Norwegian-Russian border where your guide tells you about the history and culture of the area, and you also visit a Norwegian military watch tower which is often manned. From the tower you can see the imposing Boris Gleb on the Russian side, and you will make a stop at the current border station to have coffee/tea and muffins. Finally you return to Kirkenes where you make a brief stop at Prestfjellet Mountain to enjoy its magnificent views of both the town and the waiting Hurtigruten ship.
Duration: 2 hours 30 min
Included: Coffee/tea and muffins
Clothes/footwear: Warm clothing and warm shoes. Special clothing is provided.
Please note: Bring your driver’s license if you want to drive the ATV.
