The ship will make an overnight extra stop at the pier which will be visited on December 24, due to the Norwegian Christmas celebration on board.

We recommend early arrival, allowing you time to visit this beautiful coastal town with the UNESCO Bryggen wharf. You can leave your luggage at the Hurtigruten terminal, which is within walking distance of the Bergen centre.

Alesund

The Art Nouveau town of Alesund

Spend 3 hours at leisure in this unique, picturesque town. The Hurtigruten ships are working vessels operating a regular service to a set timetable; the ships carry goods, vehicles and foot passengers between ports, during day and night, as an integral part of Norwegian daily life. On day 2 the ship will also call upon the ports of Floro, Maloy, Torvik and Molde.

Historic Trondheim

In the morning the ship sails in to the wide Trondheimsfjord.
Spend 4 hours at leisure in this historic town, which was Norway’s first Capital. Trondheim is the home of Norway’s only cathedral; Nidarosdomen. You will also find authentic areas with tiny wooden houses, several of the largest wooden buildings in Norway as well as historic, wooden wharf houses along the scenic Nidelven river.

Other ports visited today: Early morning call at Kristiansund, evening call at Rorvik

Bodo area

The beautifully located Arctic town of Bodo

You will be notified before the ship crosses the Arctic Circle before it arrives to the Arctic town of Bodo, surrounded by mountain peaks and islands. You will have a few hours to explore this Arctic town.
In the late afternoon the ship sails across the wide Vestfjord towards the amazing Lofoten Islands.

The Arctic capital Tromso

The ship passes along the scenic Vesteralen islands and then into a magnificent archipelago to the north, before it reaches the world’s northernmost university town Tromso.
You will have 4 hours to spend in this vibrant Arctic town, before the ship continues to the north.

North Cape

The main port today is Honningsvag, the closest port to the North Cape.

Hammerfest – the northernmost town in Europe

Call at the Arctic town of Hammerfest, then across Soroysund to Oksfjord. Then across Lopphavet open sea before the ship finds quiet waters.

Today the ship passes through the amazing, narrow Risoyrenna channel between the Vesteralen and Lofoten Islands, with evening calls at the Lofoten Islands.

Enjoy spectacular winter scenery of the picturesque Helgeland coast, with its myriad of islets and steep mountains. The amazing 7 sisters mountain range will be visible just south of the tiny town of Sandnessjoen.

Trondheim area

The historic island of Munkholmen leads the way to Trondheim. After the visit to Trondheim the ship passes the beautiful island of Hitra and on to the open sea of Hustadvika before approaching the city of Molde.

Christmas in Norway

The main celebration in Norway is on Christmas Eve; December 24. Norwegians normally celebrate with their close family, gathering around the Christmas dinner.
The presents are waiting under the Christmas tree until the dinner is finished, followed by a walk around the Christmas tree, and may be a visit from Santa Claus (“julenissen” in Norwegian).

On behalf of the group I would like to thank you and your colleagues for organizing our wonderful tour of Norway. Everything went very well including the weather, which was spectacular. We enjoyed all the hotels, the central locations you chose and the amenities, especially the lavish breakfasts. Three extra days in Oslo allowed us to tour the city at our leisure and to enjoy more of the important sights including the newly opened National Museum. The Norway in a Nutshell tour was amazing and made much easier by using your recommended porterage service between hotels in Oslo and Bergen. Both the train journeys and the boat trip were spectacular, and combined with a night in the beautiful Kviknes Hotel made for an unforgettable two days. We were very impressed by the Hurtigruten cruise, particularly the way they combined a working ship with a cruise ship, the comfortable accommodations, the food and service. It was fascinating to visit all the various ports, islands and fjords and the two included tours were excellent and informative. In the end we were glad to have the extra night in Kirkenes, to visit their lovely museum and take a trip to the Russian border. It was a good way to end the tour. Again, thank for staying with us through 2 years of pandemic postponements and changes. We certainly will recommend Fjord Travel in the future.
