IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE OVERNIGHT STAY IN THE
SNOW HOTEL:
Meeting point & departure:
Meet the Snow Hotel guide at 17:45 in the lobby/reception of the RICA
KIRKENES HOTEL (please note that there are 2 Rica hotels in Kirkenes; Rica
Hotel Kirkenes and Rica Arctic Hotel). Normally the departure time is at 18 00
hs. You will recognize the guide, as he/she will have the KIRKENES SNOW HOTEL
sign.
This distance between the hotel and the Snow Hotel (1 km) will be done by Kick
sleigh ( Arctic Taxi ) or by Snowmobile Taxi ( sleigh pulled by snowmobile ).
Luggage:
Your main luggage will be stored at the Rica Kirkenes hotel. It is no need
to take the big luggage with you to the Snow Hotel, as it will be frozen after a
night inside the snow.
Bring only a small night bag with you, where your important belongings
are kept during the Snow Suite night.
Clothing:
You need to bring with you: long thermal underwear, pullover. Or
jogging dress, breathable. You are in the Arctic Climate: take extra layers to
keep yourself warm.
Warm outdoor clothing: thermal overalls, hat, mittens, winter boots
and socks are included in the price of overnight in the Snow Hotel.
You will also get a sleeping bag , sheet, woolen socks and a woolen night hat
for the night in the Snow Hotel.
Health condition:
It is needed to have a normal health condition and a good humor to enjoy the
overnight in the Snow Hotel!
Overnight & facilities at the Snow Hotel:
In the Snow Suite there are real beds with real mattresses to keep your back
warm during the night. Beds are surrounded by ice blocks. You will be sleeping
inside the sleeping bag. Guide of the Snow Hotel will explain how to sleep
inside the sleeping bag.
Your outdoor clothing is good to set as a roll and inside to the sleeping back
or between the mattress and sleeping bag. More comfortable in the morning to
have them on again!
There are curtains as a door in every Snow Suite.
Temperature is between -4 Celsius degrees and -6 Celsius degrees.
Restaurant & meals:
Next to the Snow Hotel there is a warm Lavvo restaurant, where breakfast and
dinner is served.
There is a Snow Bar to warm you up before sleeping in the Snow Hotel,
but it is not advisable to drink too much before going to sleep.
In the Lavvo restaurant there is one room with few beds, just in case a person
does not feel comfortable to sleep inside the snow. In the Lavvo restaurant
there is staff also during night time to secure safe overnight in the Snow Suite
Shower, sauna & toilet facilities:
The Snow Hotel is located in the suburban wilderness. Toilets (electric- and
bio toilets), which are heated, are outside of the Snow Suite. You need to walk
appr 50 meters to get there. There is no running water, but you can wash your hands in the rest room facilities.
It is important to make a visit to the toilet before going to sleep in the sleeping
bag.
Sauna and shower facilities are in the Rica Kirkenes Hotel, 1 km from Kirkenes
Snow hotel. There are towels in the changing room for the overnighters
use.
The sauna is normally ready for the overnighters use at 09 00 am depending on
the schedule of overnighters.
Rules:
There are also few strict rules to remember when inside the Snow Hotel and
Snow Suite: it is not allowed to smoke or make fire inside the any facility of
Kirkenes Snow hotel. This is so strictly forbidden, that there are alarms in
this case. We do not want to have rain in the Snow Hotel!
CHILDREN: The staff at the Snow Hotel will assess each child's
suitability to the cold environment inside the Snow Hotel following an hour or
so spent there. Any child not comfortable in the Snow Hotel will be looked after
by our Snow Hotel staff inside the warm Lavvo next door to the Snow Hotel.
Parents are however fully responsible for the welfare and comfort of their
children.

Aurora
Borealis - the amazing Northern
Lights
The Northern Lights; nature's
own light show, are solar winds that meet the atmosphere in a zone
around the magnetic North Pole, forming arches, waves and curls of
light moving across the sky, with sudden rays of light shooting down
from space.
The
Northern Lights activity takes place all year in all types of
weather. However, to actually see the lights, the weather has to be
dark and clear (no guarantee!). In Tromso it is dark between August
and April, with the main Northern Lights season from November to
April. The Northern Lights are visible from the afternoon until the
middle of the night. Read more
