Due to Norway’s topography, with mountain crossings and fjords cutting into the country, it is difficult for other than locals to plan and put together a proper itinerary to visit the highlights of Norway. That’s why we are here; we know where to go, what to see and how to get around. We have put together quite a few itineraries into fixed packages, including all transport and accommodation. The Flam Railway

We offer you an easy and eco-friendly way of travelling in Norway, as all trips are based on travel by regular, public transport, like train, boat/ferry and coach. As it is a long way between southern Norway (Oslo) and Arctic Norway in the north (Tromso & Kirkenes) we also use regular, domestic flights. Some of the excursions, like dog sledding and snowmobile safaris, are not part of the public transport system.

Independent travelling in Norway

All our trips are independent/unescorted
This means that we make all the required booking arrangements up front, and you travel on your own; you will not be travelling with a group. We will however provide detailed information on how to find your way around. Most Norwegians speak English.

Hurtigruten in spectacular Trollfjord

We use the Norwegian Hurtigruten company on our cruises and cruise packages. This company has been cruising along the Norwegian coast for more than 100 years, so they know what they are doing! The crew is basically Norwegian. The Hurtigruten concept differs substantially from other cruise liners, as it is regular, public transportation for the people living along the coast. In addition to this, the Hurtigruten ships carry cargo and post to the tiny coastal communities and towns en route, as well as cruise passengers from around the globe.

Three extra days in Oslo allowed us to tour the city at our leisure and to enjoy more of the important sights including the newly opened National Museum. The Norway in a Nutshell tour was amazing and made much easier by using your recommended porterage service between hotels in Oslo and Bergen. Both the train journeys and the boat trip were spectacular, and combined with a night in the beautiful Kviknes Hotel made for an unforgettable two days. We were very impressed by the Hurtigruten cruise, particularly the way they combined a working ship with a cruise ship, the comfortable accommodations, the food and service. It was fascinating to visit all the various ports, islands and fjords and the two included tours were excellent and informative. In the end we were glad to have the extra night in Kirkenes, to visit their lovely museum and take a trip to the Russian border. It was a good way to end the tour. Again, thank for staying with us through 2 years of pandemic postponements and changes. We certainly will recommend Fjord Travel in the future.
